A range of activities for the students, by the students and for the students under the banner of the Finishing school.

For my first year students will be uploading material for BE 103 right after i can ascertain you won't photocopy the notes back to me pronto as assignemnts! Hope everyone is logged on.

Would like suggestions and additions from the seniors. maybe diagrams or case studies or questions that you think should be there. Also what is the technology thorugh which

I can make available each unit as I teach it next semester?

The UGC team visited our university, followed by the visit of Rahul Gandhi to the university.

One good thing about VIP visits is that we all are on our toes, and alert.

Also its very pleasurable to read about RGTU in the newspapers and read the positive comments

that our visitors make.

Parts of the university are really world class...and other parts are getting there.

Ofcourse I would love a posh, high tech canteen where faculty and students can eat.

A "cafeteria" rather than a canteen.

OK students, the exams are over and we are waiting for you to come back and

bring excitement to the campus again.

Hope your exams went well amd the papers were easy and that you all top!

I think it is wonderful that the iBranch people have created a public psace where we can all interact.

And its very encouraging to see the Vice Chancellor himself being accessible and wanting to listen to

the voice of the student community.

And I have been thinking.. we should have actual physical places too where we can all interact.

Just a thought. Maybe the space around the parking space and the canteen and the courtyard.

Exciting stimulating place where atleast ten things are going on.

I think our university is uniquely poised to be an exciting, stimulating twenty first century institution.

A place where " a thousand flowers bloom and a hundred streams of thought contend."

Art, music, debates, discussions, technological creativity.

A place where you can look back to when you are much older and say

"Bliss was it in that dawn to be alive

To be young was very heaven"

I read a comment on a blog at this site about an intellectual

section in college and how they lack a platform.

And i saw some students making a film one day and would love

to get in touch with them to learn a little about the process.

So there is an aware, active group out there somewhere and it would

be nice if you got together, regardless of bramch or year and maybe

"make some noise', do something new and exciting.

BUT AFTER the exams ofcourse.

I have met students who perform at rock shows.

And students who sing on radio.

And so many who play cricket or football.

One who plays the "Congo"? The college is full of fresh young talent.

But youth should also be about making platforms. Not  waiting for them to magically appear.

And if you want help from faculty and administration, it will come.

BUT you have to be there in classes... even after the lunch break.

Study hard, Perform well. Live upto the hopes of your...

Most of you have passed the forbidding structure just a short distance away from

us.The fortress with the large walls.

Would you like to visit the jail? I am serious.

I went once and met the female prisoners.

And contrary to expectations they seem human, like all of us.

And there are children who have followed their mothers into jail because there is

nobody outside to look after them.

So in a way they are prisoners too.

And I thought about it. Just the experience of being shut away from the world.

waiting for a trial.

Being forgotten or abandoned by your family inside.

What if you were innocent? But did not have the money for legal help?

And what happens when you leave jail? Who will employ you? marry you?

Even though the term of imprisonment is over, you are never really out of jail.

Just a few stray thoughts.

The jailer says he has grants and would welcome engineering students working on projects there.

Today we had an extempore debate competition and very good

participation.

Infact too good!

The problem is when you compete against more people there is a chance that you may not win.

And this can be heart breaking.

And i can go hoarse saying participation matters not winning or losing.

And you won't believe me!

I believe if you learn something and keep getting exposure to good speakers you are

bound to grow into a good speaker.

So please do not lose heart!
