I don’t know if my post would appear on ibranch or not and if yes then how long it stays there.  But a simple issue with a clear logic. Is ibranch worth the yearly charges that it takes from institutions? I consider it fine for the non-technical institutions. But don’t all of you think that it is a matter of sheer shame that a premier institution like ours RGPV, is using such portal services. Maybe to a newbie the facilities provided by ibranch may seem very fascinating. I am not making it an issue to be against ibranch services, but my point is are the students and faculty of RGPV not worthy enough to host and manage such services on its own? we have high end world class servers and even DNS registration system of our own.  services what ibranch provides is not something like that development of which may take months and can be implements using any good CMS. Why the students not taking responsibility and why the authorities not taking steps toward this.  The bottom line what i want to sum up is RGPV is producing engineers who will server software industry many will move to web domain, but a irony that it is not able to handle its own petty requirement of a portal.

Re: IBranch: Is it worth?

Hello Vidhatanand, i am Raghu Pandey, Founder & CEO of iBranch.in and i assure you that this blog post shall not be taken down :)

By reading your blog i am assuming that you are convinced about the utility of an 'INTRA COLLEGE PORTAL'... and your real question is "Is it necessary for a third party like iBranch.in to manage the INTRA COLLEGE PORTAL of a tech institute?" .. right?

The people within your organization are surely capable of developing a Collaborative Portal as we did it.. no doubt! However thats just the beginning of "to-do list" for RUNNING the portal service SUCCESSFULLY. Others which follow are:

- Routine technology maintenance to keep the service running 24x7
- Users' membership management and tech support
- Training & Evangelizing

Now as you can see all the 3 activities above are routine processes and you need dedicated people for doing that... either employed by the institute itself or outsourced to 3rd parties like iBranch.in . Outsourcing is a much better decision! We have summarized similar advantages of iBranch service on the following page:

Re: IBranch: Is it worth?

Well sir,
I respect your reply and do agree with the reasons you gave. But my purpose of the blog was just to get students engaged and involved in such portals, not to reduce the cost on Ibranch :) but just to feel the sense of responsibility and learn something new in the age of web 2.0. I would just suggest and would be grateful if Ibranch can devise any plan to get the current students involved in a learning process.I am a passout of 2009 batch and i feel something should be done in this direction for our junior batches. Thanks

"if Ibranch can devise any plan to get the current students involved in a learning process"

excellent thought... pls give more input on this as in what exactly you mean by involvement. We at iBranch would surely make efforts in this direction.
